Do you enjoy building high-performance applications that make complex drone and telemetry data useful in the real world?
At Robotto, we build advanced autonomy and software solutions for drones and unmanned systems. Our work brings together computer vision, edge computing, software, electronics and real-world product development.
We are looking for a C++ Software Engineer to build a new Qt-based user application that brings video, telemetry and product data together in a clear, reliable interface.
This is a hands-on role for someone who is strong in C++, comfortable with system-level programming and motivated by performance-sensitive applications involving video streaming and telemetry data.
The role
You will design and build the graphical application layer for Robotto’s drone platform from the ground up. Your work will sit close to the product, turning complex technical information into an intuitive and dependable application for users and internal teams.
You will work closely with colleagues across computer vision, control, flight testing and electronics to ensure that the application layer integrates well with the wider platform.
What you will do
- Design and develop a high-quality Qt-based graphical user application in C++ from the ground up.
- Create reliable and intuitive interfaces for visualising and interacting with drone video, telemetry and related product data.
- Develop system-level components that support video streaming, telemetry handling and communication between product subsystems.
- Build performant, maintainable solutions for real-time or near-real-time information flows.
- Define and develop the application architecture in collaboration with the wider engineering team.
- Apply strong engineering practices across code quality, testing, debugging, documentation and version control.
- Collaborate with computer vision, control, flight-test and electronics colleagues to integrate software into the wider platform.
- Share knowledge and help support less experienced engineers or student-project talent when relevant.
What success could look like in your first 3–6 months
- You have a strong understanding of Robotto’s software architecture, product use cases and data flows.
- You have helped establish the foundation, architecture and initial functionality of Robotto’s new Qt application.
- Video and telemetry-related functionality is robust, understandable and easier to use.
- You are contributing to stronger code quality, testing and technical decisions across the software function.
- You are a trusted technical partner for colleagues working across computer vision, control, flight testing and electronics.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a software engineer who is comfortable moving between application development and system-level programming in a product environment.
- At least 3 years of experience in software engineering, ideally developing products or applications.
- Strong C++ programming and system-programming experience.
- Hands-on experience building applications with the Qt framework is preferred.
- Experience with video streaming, telemetry data, real-time data flows or similar performance-sensitive applications is highly relevant.
- Experience with software architecture, debugging, testing and version control in complex technical products.
- Experience in robotics, drones, embedded-adjacent systems, computer vision or control systems is an advantage.
- Professional fluency in English.
- A degree in computer science, software engineering, robotics, electrical engineering or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience is welcome.
Who you are
You are practical, curious and detail-oriented. You care about both technical quality and the experience of the people using the application.
- Take ownership of delivery and code quality.
- Enjoy solving complex technical problems and making difficult systems easier to use.
- Collaborate well across software, hardware, computer vision and control disciplines.
- Are comfortable working in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
- Communicate trade-offs, progress and risks in a clear and pragmatic way.
Our hiring process
Our process is designed to be straightforward and conversational:
- Introductory conversation with our Talent Acquisition & Recruitment Partner
A chance to learn more about Robotto, the role and what you are looking for.
- Meeting with the Hiring Manager / Principal Engineer
A deeper conversation about your technical background, approach and experience relevant to the role.
- Leadership meeting
A conversation with members of the leadership team. This stage may include a short case discussion or live scenario relevant to the role.
- Offer
If there is a strong mutual fit, we will move forward with an offer.
Why join Robotto?
Robotto is building advanced autonomy technology for drones and unmanned systems, working at the intersection of software, hardware, computer vision and real-world operations.
You will join a highly technical, ambitious team at an exciting point in the company’s journey. This is not a role where everything is already defined. It is an opportunity to contribute to products that move from advanced technology into real-world impact.
You will have the chance to work closely with talented engineers, contribute to meaningful products and projects, and help shape Robotto’s next stage of growth.
